Product Data View the safety data sheet (.pdf) Rum Definition The products we offer conform to the general rules on the definition, description, presentation, labeling and the protection of geographical indications of spirit drinks and repealing Council Regulation (EEC) No.1576/89, as set out in Regulation (EC) No.110/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 January 2008  published in the Official Journal of the European Union L39/16 of 13 February 2008.  Such Regulation applied from 20 May 2008. In particular, Chapter 1. Article 4. Annex II. 1 (a) (i) A spirit drink produced exclusively by alcoholic fermentation and distillation, either from molasses or syrup produced in the manufacture of cane sugar or from sugar-cane juice itself, and distilled at less than 96 % vol., so that the distillate has the discernible specific organoleptic characteristics of rum. or (ii) A spirit drink produced exclusively by alcoholic fermentation and distillation of sugar-cane juice, which has the aromatic characteristics specific to rum and a volatile substances content equal to or exceeding 225 grams per hectolitre of 100 % vol. alcohol.  This spirit may be placed on the market with the word 'agricultural' qualifying the sales denomination 'rum' accompanied by any of the geographical indications of the French Overseas Departments and the autonomous region of Madeira as registered in Annex III. Genetically Modified Organisms Rum is free from Genetically Modified Organisms. The molasses or syrup, produced in the manufacture of cane sugar or from the sugar-cane juice itself is free from contamination from Genetically Modified Organisms. In addition, the distillation process for rum removes all proteins and DNA from the raw materials so that no trace of these compounds appears in the final product.
